about

This is one of our favorites. I'm not sure how many people will pick up on what this relates to, so I'll let you know this: Frank Herbert explored the notion of whether sin was required for sentience in a story that was not in the Dune series.

lyrics

A planet peaceful, fair and just.
A kind and loving folk, quite.
Lacking even words for sins,
we'd treat them as beasts or less
and they would forgive the harm.
We would not know where to begin.
Without sin and sentience.
Sin and sentience.

Our cities careless displacement.
Servile they will comply, yes.
Meanwhile our priests seek salvation.
They only need to teach sin.
The fruit offered rots within.
We should know not to play with sin.
Knowing pain and sentience
Sin and sentience

And sin, once taught, never quite leaves.
Acknowledgement of peers, check.
What of peers without great losses?
Reciprocal bargains played.
Trustless treaties meaning naught.
We would not know where to begin.
With both sin and sentience
Sin and sentience

about

Mr. Beany's Bitty Band

We're a one-person band fronted by a human who self-describes as a mad artist. We invented the "crapcapella" genre, and remain a proponent, though we now support the term "folk acapella" as well. We love improvised music as well as sheet music.
